Matthew Wallace is Shovel Ready

Countredelic Music from humboldt county, CA

Like a Sasquatch emerging from the hills of Northern California, Matthew Wallace is raising a stink with his second record, Shovel Ready, released May 14th. It might get a little funky in here when Wallace is joined by his new backing band, the Stolen Horses. Featuring Shawn Hill on bass, Taylor Aglipay on keys, and Harrison Cowgill on drums, the volume is turned all the way up for this one. Crunchier, fuzzier, wobblier, stankier, and wickeder, this latest combo gets you on your feet and keeps you dancing with vintage rock 'n roll sounds, while staying true to Wallace's country-blues bottle-neck slide roots.

Shovel Ready features rich story-telling, inspiring calls-to-action, and groovy rhythms. From the opening epic, Ashes on Her Grave, to the pocket rocket NPR Tiny Desk standout Mambo Queen, to the fiery Kool-Aid Man, on through to the rowdy cow-punk title track and the intrepid jams of The Way You Set Me, Shovel Ready is a non-stop good time. The album was engineered, mixed, and mastered at After Hours Recorders in Redding, CA, by Bruce Turgon of Foreigner fame. Order your copy today!

Introducing the Band:

On Keyboards:

taylor aglipay

A Northern California institution, Taylor Aglipay is constantly creating. You can find him playing guitar and suitcase drumkit with his wife in their duo Rainy Day Picnic. You can find him playing saxophone and keys with Hayfork Alt-Folk outfit Merit Parcel. You can find him playing with the Buckhorn Stompers or literally creating new experimental instruments to bring to local hootenannies. Taylor not only contributed all the keyboard and organ sounds for Shovel Ready, he engineered the final track, "California's On Fire" on a vintage Tascam reel-to-reel player in his home studio.

On Drums:

harrison cowgill

Hailing from Utah, Harrison has been beating skins for years in the Salt Lake City scene. From power pop-punk to technical heavy metal, Harry has established himself as a go-to session drummer in the Western US. He flexes his rock n' roll chops on Shovel Ready.

On Bass:

Shawn Hill

A singer-songwriter and band leader in his own right, Washington native Shawn Hill is committed to building the local music scene in Hayfork. He regularly plays guitar and sings his own songs with indie-folk rock outfit Merit Parcel. As the founder of Fourth Corner Productions, he also hosts various live-streams and events as well as providing recording opportunities for local musicians at his Fourth Corner Studio.

On Guitar and Vocals

matthew wallace

Born and raised in Kaufman County, Texas, Matthew Wallace blends elements of country, folk, ragtime, gospel, and rock n' roll into a burly Americana cocktail best described as "Countredelic". Wallace is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. You can find him tickling the ivories at black-tie galas or slapping the clawhammer banjo at the local Farmer's Market. You may see him strap on the electric or resonator guitar on stages across Northern California. Drawing comparisons to Waylon Jennings and Sturgill Simpson, Matthew Wallace's stories and songs have a timelessness and immediacy that speaks to the hearts of listeners.
